Thomas Parella, MA, LPC, NCC and Jennifer Werries, PhD, LPC, NCC, ACS, CTTS are the Co-founders of New Pathways Counseling. Tom is a graduate of Seton Hall University's Masters Program in Professional Counseling. Jennifer earned her doctorate in Leadership with a Specialization in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands. Both are licensed as therapists by the State of Michigan, and are members in good standing of the Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association and the American Counseling Association. Tom and Jennifer are also members of the National Board of Certified Counselors. In addition to their role as therapists, Jennifer is adjunct faculty for the University of the Cumberlands and both have served as professors for Seton Hall University and Central Michigan University, where they are responsible for the education and training of future therapists.
Thomas and Jennifer share a holistic counseling approach drawing mainly from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Interpersonal Cognitive Therapy, but it is not limited to the interventions connected by these theories. Change is dependent on your work and ours, so while it is impossible to guarantee specific results, we will work together to achieve the best possible outcomes. What we can guarantee is that you will be met with compassion, acceptance, understanding, and support through whatever issues or challenges you may be facing.
Rebecca A. Meisner, MA, LLPC Rebecca holds a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Central Michigan University. She has received training and supervision at the Human Development Clinic at Central Michigan University, where she also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with majors in Psychology and Child Development. Rebecca’s training experiences include working with addictions, human development, sexuality, children, and multicultural identities. During her undergraduate studies she gained experience and knowledge in marriage and family studies, child development, and human sexuality. Rebecca is currently undergoing special training to become a registered play therapist, to enhance her work with children and young people. Rebecca is also certified in administering the Prepare-Enrich couples assessment tool to enhance her work with couples. She is a skilled clinician, and we are proud to have her working with us!
Brooke E. Bechtel, MA, LLPC Brooke holds a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling degree from Central Michigan University. She received training and supervision at the Central Michigan University Counseling Center, Center for Community Counseling & Development and Shepherd Middle School. Brooke has experience working with anxiety, depression, addictions, sexual identity, self-harm, and trauma. In addition to her clinical training, Brooke has gained experience working as the Sexual Assault Response Team Lead for Behavioral Health Programs of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Brooke also holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a Major in Psychology and Minor in Substance Abuse Intervention & Prevention. We are excited to have her as a new member of our NPCS family!
Katie Brown, MA, LLPC Katie received a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Central Michigan University, where she completed training at New Pathways and Inpatient Services in Alama, MI. Her training experiences include working with addictions, multicultural identities, sexuality, depression, anxiety, and children. Additionally, she has received supervised training at the Human Development Clinic at Central Michigan University. Katie also holds a Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University with a specialization in eating behavior. Her training experience includes food preference development, satiety and satiation, and nutritional psychology. During her undergraduate degree, Katie studied Psychology and Dietetics at Central Michigan University where she gained knowledge in human behavior, appetite control, and disordered eating. We are proud to have Katie as a member of the NPCS family!
Ashleigh Sexton, Masters Intern Ashleigh is currently completing a Master of Arts degree in Professional and School Counseling from Central Michigan University. Her training has consisted of a practicum course which included individual and group supervision as well as videotaped supervised training at the Center for Community Counseling and Development Clinic at Central Michigan University. Ashleigh holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Substance Abuse Education: Prevention, Intervention and Treatment from Central Michigan University. Ashleigh is also trained in administering the Prepare-Enrich couples assessment tool to enhance her work with couples. A skilled clinician, she is an asset to our NPCS family!
Dee Burzynski, Office Manager Dee is a self-motivated administrative professional with extensive experience overseeing office operations. She is an energetic and responsible Office Manager skilled in working with a diverse group of people showing compassion and caring in all that she does. Dee is well-versed in mediating conflict and running efficient daily business operations. She has a background as a high-performing Administrative Assistant with an impressive record delivering results. She enjoys helping others to live life to its fullest. In her free time, Dee loves spending time with her family, traveling, helping out on her son's soccer team, and volunteering wherever needed. We're glad to have her with us!
New Pathways Offices are generally open weekdays from 9:30am to 5:30 pm M-Th, and 9:30-2:00 pm on Fridays. with walk-in clients or inquiries welcome. Evening hours are available by appointment. Our premises are handicap accessible and fully ADA compliant.
